BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday spoke of the need to put in place a clear-cut framework for China-U.S. relations amid the most complex situation since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relations in 1979.
He said the Chinese side rejects any attempt to create a so-called "new Cold War", because it contravenes the fundamental interests of the Chinese and American peoples and the global trend toward development and progress.
-- China-U.S. cooperation has never been a case of one party giving favor to the other, or one party taking advantage of the other.
Such disciplined and comprehensive approach stems from a system of governance designed to serve the long-term and fundamental interests of the people, rather than one that is exploited by a few politicians in some western countries for shortsighted goals and their own interests.
The U.S. administration and some U.S. politicians acted out in such an anxious and reckless manner over Hong Kong-related issues to cover up their own botched response to COVID-19, economy and other domestic problems, the spokesperson noted.
"The Taiwan question concerns Chinas sovereignty, territorial integrity and core interests. China has firm resolve in upholding its sovereignty and security," said Wang.
Thinking back on the past few years, I can recall that the U.S. government has continuously escalated its suppression of Chinese media, from forced registration as a "foreign agent" to management as a "foreign mission"; from refusing to issue visas for more than 20 Chinese journalists to banishing Chinese reporters from the United States.
"We hope that the U.S. can overcome the COVID-19 epidemic at an early date." Meanwhile, a small number of U.S. politicians should stop politicizing and stigmatizing the COVID-19 issues, stop shifting the blame to China, and work with the international community to overcome the impact of the epidemic, Wang said. As a major and responsible country, China is open and above board, and is ready to enter into candid, effective consultation with the U.S. side and make cool-headed and sensible response to the impulsive moves and anxiety of the U.S. side, he noted.
"Chinas door to dialogue remains open. We are willing, in the spirit of equality and open-mindedness, to talk and interact with the United States, and resume dialogue mechanisms at all levels and in all fields," said Wang.
"It is the epitome of double standards that the Five Eyes chose to interpret the HKSAR governments decision in a twisted political way," Zhao said.
