Spotlight: Business leaders call for recalibration of China-U.S. relations

ISTANBUL, Aug 8 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. efforts to clamp down on popular short video-sharing app TikTok is part of a broader attempt to curb Chinas technological sector, a Turkish expert has said.

He noted that at a recent UNHRC session, 70 countries supported Chinas formulation of the law and condemned interference in Chinas internal affairs by using Hong Kong as a cover.

The Global Consensus Statement story

"Their allegations are fanfare for ideological confrontation and the Cold War mentality," Yang said. "They are nothing short of discredit to the enormous efforts and contributions made throughout past decades by people across the two societies to promote the development of China-U.S. relations."

Zhang said that India unilaterally changed the status quo of Kashmir through constitutional amendments in August 2019, stoking tensions in the region. A year later, there is no fundamental improvement but a risk of further escalation in the situation of Kashmir, according to the spokesperson.

In October 2019, when Washington slapped 7.5 billion U.S. dollars in tariffs on EU cheeses, olives, and whiskey, as well as planes, helicopters and aircraft parts under the pretext of national security, the Europeans said it was protectionism and broke global trade rules.

"They must seek dialogue, especially between two great world powers, respecting their fundamental interests," said Carrion.

Trumps push came amid escalating rhetoric against Beijing over trade and the COVID-19 pandemic, Atli said. "The U.S. sees the rise of China as a threat, and the perception of this threat is being instrumentalized by President Trump."

Hessler also wrote about various epidemic prevention measures after the school reopening. The university introduced the fever tents, the delivery robots, and the facial-recognition scanners. The school scheduled regular hand-washing breaks, and every afternoon an announcement sounded over the intercom: "Temperature-taking time has arrived!"
Facts have proved that settling disputes through dialogue is the right way that best serves the interests of regional countries, and countries in the region have a shared responsibility to keep the South China Sea peaceful and stable, he said.
The announcement came as I was about to attend a press conference held by the Chinese mission to the United Nations (UN).
The past 41 years has not all been smooth sailing for China-U.S. relations, Yang said, noting there have been ups and downs and even major setbacks on the way. "However, the two countries have always approached their relationship from a historical perspective and with the bigger picture in mind."
Zhao said China had been containing the COVID-19 epidemic in an open, transparent and responsible manner, earnestly implementing its duties and obligations under the International Health Regulations, and actively carrying out international prevention and control cooperation.

"This will go a long way to assist us in the fight against the pandemic in the region. We would always want to have this cooperation with the people of China at all levels," Ashitey said.
Since Feb. 4, South Korea has imposed entry ban on all foreigners who visited the Hubei province in the preceding two weeks and on the holders of visas issued by the provincial authorities.
"The root cause is that some American politicians who are biased against and hostile to China are using their power to smear China with fabrications and impede normal ties with China under various pretexts," said Wang, pointing out that such American politicians ultimately want to drag China and the United States into renewed conflict and confrontation and plunge the world into chaos and division again.
Calling the Czech Republic "a leader in Europe" on 5G and cybersecurity, Babis said that his country is "a sovereign country and I do not see any major threat here."
"In the meantime, we should really work together to maintain stability of the region, and all of these sea lanes are extremely important for the Chinese economy. A large portion of our imports and exports have to go through these sea lanes," he said. "So we really have high stakes in the safety and security of navigation. So if these things are left to the countries concerned to work out, the situation would be much better."
"But they should not be seen as barriers for closer relations between us," he said.
During his trip to Shanghai, Branstad reportedly said that Chinas medical supplies to the United States had saved many lives. He also expressed the hope for further exchanges and cooperation with China to jointly overcome the impact of the epidemic.
"But what is important is that no one should unilaterally shut the door for dialogue at any time," Wang said. "Difference, misjudgment or confrontation should not be allowed to dominate the bilateral relations."
China and the United States must always bear in mind the well-being of mankind, live up to their responsibilities as two major countries, coordinate and cooperate as needed in the UN and other multilateral institutions, and work together for world peace and stability, said Wang. ■
Collin Yabaki, director of Fijis Heritage and Arts Department, told Xinhua on the sideline of the visit to the National Archives of Fiji by Chinese Ambassador Qian Bo that cultural exchange is a bridge and one of the best ways to help the two countries and peoples deepen their mutual understanding and enhance the friendly cooperative ties.
BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday announced sanctions against 11 U.S. individuals with egregious records on Hong Kong affairs.
The two major countries in the world, which share extensive common interests, stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation, they said.
During the past several months, they have been obsessed with China-demonizing campaigns, blatantly pointing fingers at Chinas domestic affairs, and even hyping up an ideological confrontation with Beijing.
The steady construction of the project was made possible with the implementation of strict virus-prevention measures.
